about me
Mariam Nakato grew up in a small village in Central Uganda. She saw her own siblings struggle to stay in school. Today, she is the heart of our sponsorship programme – connecting sponsors with children, writing letters, and making sure every child feels loved. She joined Abdallah because she could not stay silent.
Mariam is a trained primary school teacher but currently volunteers full‑time for the foundation. She is fluent in Luganda and English. She keeps all our sponsorship records, communicates with donors, and personally delivers letters to children who cannot read yet.

Mariam was thanked by a local parish priest for her work with orphans. That is her greatest reward.
Why we do this
We are ordinary people – some with jobs, some studying, some retired – who came together because we saw children in Uganda struggling to stay in school. We are not a big organisation. We are not yet registered. But we are honest. When you give through OKWAGALA, your money goes directly to the child’s school or family. We share simple reports. No fixed fees, no pressure – just love.
